caught the end of the eurovision finals on tv just now. and norway won. and it reminded me of being in bergen with laurie and flora, and battling the snow and finding quaint cosy cafes up the hill in some random back lane, and the wonderful train ride with rolling hills and frozen lakes, snow on treetops and pure, untouched nature.

and hearing the winner give his thank you speech made me miss that heavily swedish-accented english, and being able to listen to people around me speaking swedish and picking up bits of words that i understand. (and although the winner was norwegian, i'm pretty sure he said something about tomorrow)

and because of all these, its opened up my little box of malmö memories.
like warm milk and honey in the kitchen with bianca and laurie.
like nutella and crepes and lemon and sugar.
like "the terrible threes trip to norway"
like movies in laurie's room, huddled under blankets.
like cider (which i miss dearly) and poker and drunk fredrick.
like the excitement of planning and going away every month to some new and unexplored corner of the earth.
like the cobbled streets of shopping and the shops tucked away in little corners.
like the christmas lights and light snow and going ice skating.
like our cosy underground cafe with awesome coffee, comfy seats and beautifully painted walls.
like the friendships and love and laughter that i left behind in that little red brick building called celciusgården.

at the end of the day, all you have is a little box of memories buried deep in the crevices of your heart and life goes on.

Read this while doing my qt the other day.. :)

"These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt someone. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work some every day.

Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the plastic cup. The roots go down, and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we're all like that.

Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the plastic cup - they all die. So do we.

And then, remember the book about Dick and Jane and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all: LOOK. Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and sane living.

Think of what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankets for a nap. Or if we had a basic policy in our nation and other nations to always put things back where we found them and cleaned up our own messes. And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world it is best to hold hands and stick together."

Now, how meaningful is that! :) It made me laugh.

the lead up to christmas last year (oh my, its 2009 already!) was extremely nice.. well, nice is a weird word to use, but if you get what i mean, you get what i mean. :) loads of belly aching laughter and silly antics and stupid jokes. and nice cafes and slow walks and thoughtful conversations. :)

christmas day in Toulouse was foggy (the snow came a day late). a long long long lunch with absolutely delicious food. :) i ate and ate and ate, and tried to understand the overflow of french around me. hur hur.

exploring Angers and the small village near Laurie's was fun and interesting. retail therapy added to that as well. new year's eve at her friend's place was actually quite fun. :) food was good. yes, i ate alot of bread. alot.

i moved out of my room today. (and into my friend's room on the same floor) i've only 2.5 more weeks before my exchange ends. as much as i would like to stay for another sem, i'm actually really looking forward to sg and melb. :) i think i'm actually going to miss my cold little end-of-the-corridor room. it was, afterall, home. :)

Northern swedes like to take a sharp intake of breath in normal conversation. Its like how we go 'yes', 'uh-huh', 'hmm', etc. And yesterday at church, I talked to this lady from Iceland, and she did the same thing. It made me want to breath in sharply as well. Hur hur. (trying to, at least)

ok, i give up. its hard thinking of all the words cos i can only say all the basic words which are all useless here. heh. malmö's been great fun! i've been getting to know many ppl.. swedish and from other places.. and i visited a church on sunday! the service was in svenska but they had english translations over a headset.. the msg was quite powerful even though the translator had a really soothing voice that was making me abit sleepy.. heh..

anw photos are up on fb if u didn't already know.

hej då!

its always good to be home and i thank God for the covering of clouds and the little bit of drizzle that makes the heat more bearable.

its always bittersweet coming back. but this time, i know i'm definitely going to miss my lil apartment for quite awhile. that said, i'm really looking forward to sweden and europe! (:

i was thinking of posting pictures up. but stir is lazy. the weather makes me lazy. :D

stir has a love-hate relationship with the singapore transport system. they bring you everywhere and is relatively fast. but taking the train at peak hour leaves me out of breath after a 4 minute, 1 stop only transfer. i was greatly traumatized. boo.
